Our first emergency jacket utilized the same 1.43 oz/sqyd Dyneema Composite Fabric we use in our footprints and stuff sacks. While bombproof, that weight might be overkill for a jacket really intended to be used only on occasion. For our Version 2, we went with the much lighter but still very abrasion-resistant .67 oz/sqyd variant. We also totally revamped the pattern and did away with the full zipper in favor of a quarter zip. These decisions shaved off a full 2.5 ounces and allowed the jacket to take up much less room, stuffing down to fist-size. This shell has no bells and whistles and is designed to disappear into your pack and reappear in an emergency, keeping you 100% dry when you need it the most.
Note: Dyneema Composite Fabric is entirely waterproof, therefore is not breathable. On this instance, heat can be regulated with the quarter zip. The included stuff sack best fits our Emergency Shell V2 folded into fifths length-wise and then rolled tightly. Our hood is form-fitting and will accommodate a hat but not a helmet.

Sizing:
Wear a shirt and measure under your arms, around the fullest part of you chest. Choose your jacket size based on chest girth below and preference. In these photos, Dean is wearing a size Large. He is 5'11", 155 lbs, 40" chest and prefers a slightly looser fit in order to wear mid layers underneath. If you're concerned about sizing, when in doubt, size up. A size too small is always worse than a size too large.

I am a full-time guide for for Andrew Skurka Adventures and NOLS. I bought this top before a series of trips I was leading in Alaska. Up in the Brooks range the weather can be unpredictable. This alpha direct top was the perfect layer I am truly impressed with its warmth, fit , and how light it is, even when we got several days of cold rain and snow I was warm and toasty even when I was bit damp. I recently got the Ultralight Fanny Pack v1.5, and it's been a game changer for me. The 2-liter interior space is just right for carrying my essentials.
The interior cash and ID pocket is a neat feature, keeping my valuables secure at the top of the pack. The quick access pocket on the exterior is super convenient for keeping my phone within easy reach. Even with the added space, the pack remains incredibly lightweight at just 2.2 oz, only a tiny bit more than the original version.
It's well-made and durable, which makes it a reliable choice for daily use. Cant recommend it enough! I am really happy!

The roll-top stuff sack (large) holds all your bedding, including your sleeping bag and air mattress.
The shopping bag (medium) is handy for your cooking gear, first aid pouch, and lots of other stuff.

Absolutely loving this hoodie in the amazing Port color. I have had other Alpha Direct hoodies from other brands, but so far this is my favorite. The balaclava hood makes for such a nice neck warmer when not pulled up. The contrasting yellow stitching looks killer. The fit is perfect. The only thing I would change is having a touch more give in the wrists. Even the new, wider wrists are snug around my relatively narrow male wrists.
